Child Find
Federal and state law mandates that all public education agencies, including school districts and charter schools, provide a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) to eligible children with disabilities. At Valor Preparatory Academy of Arizona, we are committed to identifying, locating, and evaluating all children with disabilities within our boundaries, including those who are homeless, wards of the state, or attending private or home schools. This commitment ensures that every child in need of special education and related services receives the necessary support, regardless of the severity of their disability.
Requesting Procedural Safeguards
If you would like a copy of the procedural safeguards, please contact our Special Education Department at 623-298-4520.
Support for Students Experiencing Difficulties
If your child is struggling in school, please consult with their teacher, school counselor, or school administrator to discuss the interventions that have been attempted to support your child. The Student Support Team (SST) process is the primary support mechanism for teachers and students. If these interventions are not successful, a referral for a special education evaluation may be necessary. You can submit a written request for a special education evaluation to the school administrator, special education teacher, or general education teacher.
Evaluation Process
If there is a suspicion of a disability, we are required to evaluate your child to determine their eligibility for special education services. This evaluation will be conducted only after obtaining your written consent and explaining the planned assessments. The evaluation will use tailored assessments and will not include basic tests used routinely for all students. The evaluation will comply with federal and state requirements and include any information you provide. You will receive the complete results of the evaluation within 60 calendar days of your written consent.
Developing an Individual Education Program (IEP)
If your child is eligible for special education services, we will ask you to join a team to develop an Individual Education Program (IEP) and identify the necessary special education and related services. You are welcome to invite others to the IEP meeting.
