Attendance

It is important for every student to attend and/or be in class every school day. VPA requires hybrid students to record approximately 30 hours per week. Required academic time will be completed both at the physical school site and online.

  • High school students may arrive at school between 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for independent work time and academic office hours. High school students are expected to be on site from 12:00 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Monday – Thursday.
  • Friday attendance is optional unless the student is taking a UV elective, is in a club, or requires additional academic support.
  • Parent/Legal guardians are required to verify attendance weekly through Strongmind Central (SMC); adult students will verify their own attendance.

Tardy Process

After 8 a.m. for Middle School and 12:00 p.m. for High School, parents are required to physically sign students in at the front desk.

Excused and Unexcused Absences

The Governing Board defines an excused absence as being an absence due to illness, doctor appointment, bereavement, family emergency and out-of-school suspensions not to exceed ten percent of the instructional days scheduled for the school year. Valor Preparatory Academy of Arizona also permits a student to be excused for religious purposes, not to exceed one school week. Should the absence be due to religious purposes, the legal guardian will provide written consent.

If an absence occurs relating to any other term or condition that is not specifically designated herein, the absence shall be counted as unexcused. Students absent for ten consecutive school days, except for excused absences identified herein, shall be withdrawn from the school, pursuant to A.R.S. §15-901 (A)(2).

Chronic Illness/Extended Inability to Participate

Please ask the school office for the appropriate forms if your child’s attendance is affected by a chronic health problem.
